Paul,or anyone,  what type of air filter is on your bikes. I have one of these cone type which seems to let too much air in which is causing me problems. No air leaks, right jet's etc, but flat spot when blipping throttle from idle but once into higher rev's it don't half rev. if I hold the inlet with some of my hand blocking the cone there is no flat spot and it goes like hell from idle, (revving that is).

I'm using a K&N RU-0800 filter fitted to a 38mm MkII Carb. and it seems ok.  There was no air filter on the bike when I got it and looked at the K&N website to find one with the correct inlet diameter and dimensions to fit the space on the bike.  The RU-0800 is cylindrical.

I too have a cone type filter but have been looking at the foam cylinder type filters also to replicate the originals, there seems to be a number of these type fitted to off road bikes but this was only to be more original in look and style as I have not really noticed a flat spot yet. I have yet to put any real miles on the bike to get a feel for it and at present she is water out and made ready for the winter months.

This is just about an exact copy of the original type filters that were fitted to the bike in style please note that the inlet size may well be wrong but I just wanted an example of what I was going to fit soon. In fact this has reminded me and I must measure my carb and order one the correct size. As these were a direct copy I hope they will work correctly, my originals have broken up now and just about only left the spring case with no foam on but I can read the manufacture name on the label but they have since finished trading.

Hello,
i have the same symptoms on my MK II; and i have also a K&N cone style filter fitted.
I have an Ossa Yankee 500 SS where i experienced the following:
originally it came (like the Silk) with a foam style air filter, that was also rotten
when i got the bike. I installed K&N cone type filters, but the engine didn't had the performance
like it should; after i was totally stuck, changing jets and trying on the road, i had it on a dyno, where we proofed, that it ran too rich with the ORIGINAL jets and the K&N's!
I had to lean the jets over 5 % and then it had the power it should,
proved by the dyno...
could it be, that the K&N's usually have more flow resistence than a foam type filter?

greetings to you all from Germany

Dörg

Received the Ram Air Filter today and it looks excellent but we will have to wait for spring to test it.
