All was going well until I tried to start the bike the other day. The kickstart crank sheared off at the bolt hole. Fortunately I was at home, not thirty miles away as on the previous evening. My kickstart crank is the bent type from a Triumph Trophy 1972 vintage - known as the long type. Replacements are readily available (probably because they break!) Triumph part number 57-3797 or 57-4760. My replacement is an after market part, fits ok only difference is it has metric bolt thread. This crank sticks out quite a bit and digs into my shin. Has anybody tried the kickstart crank off a trials bike 57-4503? This is straighter and was used on a bike with a high level exhaust. Does it clear the footrest?
Had difficulty starting the bike after it had been standing for a couple of days. Turned out the petrol tap tapered plug was scored slightly and letting petrol past when shut. Not enough to drip but enough make a very rich mixture (had to open throttle wide to eventually make it run). A new float needle in the carb made no difference. Lapped the tap plug into the body and all good again. Seems the Amal carb does not like being left at the side stand angle.
