Fuel tap gasket - can it be repaired or replaced?

gilesorton
Further to my earlier post the latest suggestion from Discount Bike Spares the Suzuki specialist is that "Part number 44300-05112 is intended for the Suzuki B120. I checked the parts microfiche and Suzuki do not list the tap lever gasket separately. You have to buy the whole tap, I'm afraid."

Surely other Silk owners must have encountered this before. It seems a bit excessive to have to buy the whole new tap. Are there really no replacement gaskets available? If not, can an old chewed up one be repaired?

If they could be made would it be worth commissioning a job lot?

Probably quite expensive to have them made.  The petrol tap I believe Paul used is this one on Ebay from Thailand, item number 380629002995.  At $12.99 its cheap, postage is nearly as much as the tap.  I believe the tank is tapped 1/4" BSP, if the straight adapter is removed any 1/4" BSP petrol tap will fit.  I have a plain lever type tap on my Silk readily available from many bike parts suppliers.  Not original but works.  Hope this helps with your problem.

Thanks - I have gone for the £40+ Genuine Suzuki from Discount Bike Spares rather than risk £20 on the Thai after-market product though whether it will make much difference (other than to my wallet) only time will tell.

I would still be interested to hear if anyone has any ideas for making up small parts such as this gasket. It should not be that difficult to draw it and then to cut it out from some suitable silicone/rubber material?

The one that I got from Thailand was actually new old stock and came in the original Suzuki Packing.
